The Chulabhorn Royal Academy established the “Princess Chulabhorn Award” to honor and praise the distinguished achievements of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, the Princess Srisavangavadhana, President and Chairperson of the Chulabhorn Royal Academy Council, on the occasion of her 65th birthday on July 4, 2022.

In recognition of her benevolence towards the Thai people in the field of research and development for the prevention, control, and treatment of cancer, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, a scientist and scholar who values the importance of research and the creation of new knowledge, founded the Chulabhorn Research Institute in 1987 and has served as the president. Subsequently, recognizing the need to develop more researchers, she established the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute in 2005, resulting in a significant increase in both researchers and research outputs.

In order to translate research achievements into practical applications, the Chulabhorn Research Institute established the ‘Education and Cancer Treatment Research Center’ on August 12, 2009 to conduct research and for the treatment of cancer, which is a significant public health issue in Thailand, it was established as a specialized 100-bed hospital named ‘Chulabhorn Hospital’ to serve the public, it opened its doors on October 29, 2009, and has since progressed continuously, earning a reputable name and becoming a trusted choice for thai people. Therefore, the Chulabhorn Royal Academy proposes the establishment of an international award to recognize outstanding achievements in cancer prevention, control, and patient care, benefiting humanity. To ensure the stability and enduring operation of the award process, it is deemed appropriate to establish a foundation to support various related activities, with endorsement and support from the Chulabhorn Royal Academy.
